MAC Block Apartments
Portland, OR
Design Studio, 2017
Ten floors are generated by a scheme of alternating residential units, where each unit has an adjacent garden and loft on the floor above. On the upper floor in the sequence, units meet the corner and expand into two bedroom apartments. On the lower floor the corners are filled with two studio apartments. The alternating pattern provides rich and articulated interstitial spaces between apartments, gardens and lofts, which maintain a communal feeling without destroying the autonomy of private spaces.
