Lanzarote Music Factory
Lanzarote, Canary Islands
Design Studio, 2018
A new major urban development of a disused industrial island, Lanzarote Music Factory treats a largely flat infilled landscape with a rigid grid. Building elements hook up to a wall swelling and perforating along the length of the island, the mecahnical spine and threshold between existing and new urban spaces. Viewed from the water or from the city, a series of ghost structures, vertical growths of the grid overlaying the island, seem to sleep behind the wall, punctuated by the concert hall, an open air screen facade shading a heavy masonry cell inside.
