Basilica Palladiana: Civic Gallery, Library and Marketplace

Vicenza, Italy

Design Studio, 2016

The Civic Gallery, Palladian Study Center, and market hall for Vicenza’s historic city center, was conceived as a new “corona,” in late Medieval terms, for the city’s seminal Basilica Palladiana. With a monumental facade overlooking the Piazza dei Signori, the Civic Gallery acts as an end cap for the Basilica’s northwest facade. The gallery’s ground floor houses a cafe, bookstore, lobby and multi-purpose room with adjacent courtyard, and it’s grand staircase leads to a mezzanine, and second and third-floor gallery spaces.
